The story is very immersive with language and descriptions of the surrounding area. I was there. I love how we get to know the relationship between Rhama and our main character and how loose they are with each other as they go clubbing e.t.c. And then suddenly taken to a massacre of a people. Everything happening in this story is really relevenat to what is happening right now in the world and I thought it was beautifully written.

It is totally immersive. It’s a bit on the long side for a short story but I did not feel the length at all. The stories melded together and flowed so easily - the relationship between the friends, the coming of age and the history. And he managed the tension so we’ll all throughout.

I agree, it’s all really relevant for what’s happening in the world right now, wars, people seeking reparations, and now demonstrations. Weird to be reading a story of unrest in Kenya while there is a current level of unrest there now.

Do you think the protagonist will go on with this work? It seemed, based on what her father “chose” the only way out is death, but doesn’t it often feel that way when dealing with traditionalists?!

The protagonist will be heavily burdened with it, a sudden responsibility is placed on her shoulders, but something tells me that she will be looked after by her auntie, to a degree. Not sure on the outcome of her future but it won't be one of constant joy but layered with grief and depression.
